Newmark
Gosin's talent-hungry brokerage, now a capital-markets heavyweight facing succession
Who it is
Newmark is the brokerage Barry Gosin has run for decades, first under Jeff Gural's ownership and, since a 2011 merger with BGC Partners, inside Howard Lutnick's Cantor Fitzgerald orbit. With Lutnick's backing, Gosin grew the firm into one of the Big Four of institutional capital markets alongside CBRE, JLL and Eastdil. He did it through bankruptcy bargains such as Grubb & Ellis, roll-ups such as ARA and Berkeley Point, and above all aggressive poaching. Doug Harmon and Adam Spies came from Eastdil, and Jonathan Firestone joined Jordy Roeschlaub to anchor the debt team. That habit keeps Newmark in court and in the headlines: Eastdil sued over the 2025 defection of a Western multifamily team, while former debt co-head Dustin Stolly was sidelined and decamped to Walker & Dunlop.
In The Promote's pages, Newmark is wherever the biggest New York assignments are. Its brokers handled the unwinding of Signature Bank's loan book for the FDIC. They sold 800 Fifth Ave to Miki Naftali and are now hunting a $1.3B construction loan for it. They have also marketed the Helmsley Building, Zhang Xin's Park Ave Plaza stake and the 405-417 Park assemblage. On the debt side, Anthony Orso's securities team arranged the $4.3B One Beverly Hills construction financing, and the firm has leaned hard into data centers. Newmark ranked first nationally in Green Street's 2025 office sales tally with $9.3B, and posted record revenue in 2026.
Ownership and leadership are where the story is now. Lutnick sold his stake back to the firm for $127M in 2025 after becoming Commerce Secretary. Control of Cantor passed to trusts for his sons, and Kyle Lutnick has sat on Newmark's board since February 2025. The Promote has reported succession planning around Gosin, now in his mid-70s, and chatter about a larger role for Kyle. Meanwhile data-center dealmaker Brent Mayo has left for DigitalBridge.
